In this essay I would like to exhibit how the internet has given audiences much more power than ever before. I strongly agree with this statement as people consume the media a lot more than they used to before. Audiences attentions are much more drawn in now compared to the past , social media is one thing that has put a big impact on the internet due to memes , music , movies & shows ect. People used to traditionally watch films and shows on the television but now we have many media platforms and devices to watch shows and movies to entertain us
The producers of the music Industry and the way they produce things now has changed drastically. Nowadays, anyone can participate in the music era simply by contributing with social media applications; mainly Youtube, digital downloads and streaming (Apple Music, Soundcloud etc..). These are great options and show how much the media has developed over the past few years. Technology has changed as-well and contributes to this as you can listen to music wherever by downloading it and accessing it easily. However this leads to music being illegally downloaded therefore artists fail to make as much income as they'd prefer. Advantages of this is consumers have much more variety and choice to discover new upcoming artists rather than being forced to listen to who the producers release. However a disadvantage could be that the audience could be more interested with the song than the music video , Traditional fans may have appreciated the music video.

The producers of the film and television industry has also changed massively.Technology nowadays now allow us to stream shows and we also have catch up services and readily available "on demand". The rise of technology ( mobiles , tablets , laptops ect.) have given consumers more opportunities to watch shows and films at anytime.Also big industries like Netflix have produced their own content called "Netflix Originals" This gives us much more variety rather than watching the traditional show. Whereas in previous eras people could only watch shows and films on a television and watch it there and then recording was not even an option. Advantages for this is it is accessible 24 hours a day ,long train and bus journeys could now become less boring and slightly more productive. You can catch up on whatever you've missed and even finish a series that you absolutely adore simply by binging it 'Binge watching' has replaced the traditional appointment to view format. Over the years, resolution, quantity and quality has now become more advanced as we have many different cameras and frames such as (4D, iMax, 3D) etc.. This will encourage more people to go out and watch the media rather then sitting at home and streaming it online. We also have many more choice and Disadvantages could be costing of subscriptions ties with consumers in for periods of time. Also people who are not confident with technology have limitations. Some shows and films are not always available or take time to release exclusively to other platforms.
The final reason why i agree with this statement is because of the news industry. mainly due to the fact that you are able to access the news on your mobile devices for free. Audiences don't really like having to pay for content and so if they are able to get it for free they're most likely going to go for that option. One of those options are live streaming which is actual members of the audience are at say the scene of an active crime/explosion they then record things as it happens and upload it onto social media. By uploading it on social media the audiences are automatically being given information at the time and place where the incident is taking place quickly and in real time. The news may not be able to share as accurate information due to the fact that they weren't at the place and people that they ask may be exaggerating.One of the advantages of this is that audiences are able to access the news faster than ever before in just a few clicks. This is a huge advancement from before as now if we need to find out something important as it is happening we can do so instantly. Another advantage of this is that the internet just makes it so much more convenient and easy to access One of the disadvantages of this is that audiences don't really know who they can trust. This is due to the fact that many people may not be stating the facts and may in fact be exaggerating or straight out lying.Audiences can easily be swayed simply by the addition of a blue tick to one's name on Twitter but who is to approve of Twitter themselves. By not knowing who we can really trust, we don't know if we are truly getting authentic information.
